To provide you with some perspective surrounding how special and fitting the new 2019 Forester is for you, we're going to compare it to the new 2018 Toyota RAV4, allowing you to see side by side some of the many ways that the new Forester sets the bar for the rest of the competition in its class.

2019 Subaru Forester vs. 2019 Toyota RAV4

  • The new RAV4 is only slightly more expensive than the Forester, at $24,660 MSRP compared to $24,295 MSRP in the Forester, but when you consider all of the features and capabilities that the Forester offers and the RAV4 doesn't, the price divide looks much larger.
  • Every new Forester model is equipped with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, making it a great choice for winter travels around Salt Lake City, as well as off road travel and around the town outings. The RAV4, however, comes equipped with standard front-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive capability will cost extra.

  • Under the hood, the Forester comes equipped with a newly enhanced 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine that produces 182-horsepower. The RAV4 comes equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 176-horsepower.
  • Even with more horsepower, the Forester achieves a higher estimated fuel economy, offering up to 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, compared to 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway from the RAV4.
  • The Forester offers more space than the RAV4 does. The Forester offers 111.9 cubic feet of passenger volume and up to 76.1 cubic feet of maximum cargo space, while the RAV4 falls short with 100.7 cubic feet of passenger volume and up to 73.4 cubic feet of cargo space.

  • Every new Forester now comes equipped with a Starlink multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The Toyota Entune system doesn't offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto compatibility.
  • Both vehicles come equipped with a suite of standard safety technology features, Subaru Eyesight and Toyota Safety Sense, respectively. Both systems offer pre-collision braking, lane keep assist and a form of adaptive cruise control, among other features.
