Our Heritage
A Brief History Of Mark Miller Subaru
1919
The roots of our present day Mark Miller Subaru store began when John Mark Miller opened his own Ford Agency.
1967
Larry moved the dealership to 3455 West 5400 South in Kearns, UT, building what is now Larry H. Miller Toyota.
1971
Larry was presented with an opportunity to sell Subaru without the conflict of selling Toyota at the same time.
1985
As the Subaru brand continued to grow, the Subaru dealership opened at 1515 South State Street.
1990
Mark purchased Subaru of Salt Lake City, helping expand the automotive business to multiple locations.
2009
The Sandy location joined the family—helping shape today’s two-store Mark Miller Subaru presence.
2018
A major transformation aligned with Subaru’s retailer standards—reimagining the customer experience.
2025
Continued modernization and reinvestment—supporting an even more upfront and honest experience for every guest.

Since 1919, the Mark Miller automotive family has been serving Utah communities with integrity, innovation, and a commitment to excellence. What began as John Mark Miller's Ford Agency over a century ago has evolved into one of Utah's most trusted and respected Subaru retailers, with two premier locations serving the greater Salt Lake City area.
The Mark Miller Subaru story is deeply intertwined with Utah's automotive history. When Larry H. Miller took the helm and opened the first Subaru dealership in 1971, he established a foundation built on customer satisfaction and community involvement that continues to define our brand today. Our expansion to 1515 South State Street in 1985 marked a significant milestone as the Subaru brand gained popularity throughout the Wasatch Front.
Today, Mark Miller Subaru operates two state-of-the-art facilities: our Midtown location in South Salt Lake (established 1971) and our Southtowne location in Sandy (joined 2009). Both dealerships feature modern amenities, expert service departments, and comprehensive new and used vehicle inventories. As a Registered Benefit Corporation since 2017, we've formalized our commitment to social and environmental responsibility, going beyond the Subaru Love Promise to make a lasting impact in our community.
